Ikke: "Marie, wat is jouw lievelingsdier?"

Metekindje Marie (2 jaar): "De Arabische Oryx"

Ikke: "En wat is nog een favoriet dier van je?"

Marie (nog steeds 2 jaar): "De wombat"

Dat komt ervan zeker, met twee dierenartsen als ouders…

So I’ve got the tickets, I’ve got the accomodation and everybody is still very excited to come down to Belgium for the festival. There will be about 14 of us heading over from the UK and some other countries and we are as excited as 16-year olds who are allowed to go for the first time. Also, my reputation is on the line as I’ve been bragging my pants off about the "atmosphere at Werchter". So it beter be good and the weather better be excellent. Now all I need to arrange is some cool t-shirts for all of us to wear for fun. (Yes, I digg the "I’m part of this stupid group"-feeling) So what to put on there? It has to be really funny, because we will have to outstage other groups like the Asfaltkonijnen… Any ideas anyone? Maybe Shellac can make us a nice design because he’s such a good friend? 🙂 Or because I ask so nicely? Please lieve Gerrit

Help.

Theexperience
I love going to the cinema: watching the film on the big screen and experiencing the true surround sound. But I have to say that I mostly just watch films at home, for different reasons. For one, I hate not having enough space in the movie theatre to put my drink and food, not to mention that I absolutely detest the plastic cups with sodas from the syrop machine. At home, I can drink a nice glass of wine or beer while enjoying the feature.

I’m also a sucker for putting my legs up. This regularly leads to nasty conversations with the people sitting in front of me who are forced to breath in the delicious aroma of my shoeless feet.
For some reason, the stadium seats in the belgian Kinepolis cinemas or the UGC cinema around the corner here are an absolute nightmare for my back. After an hour into the film, I get restless and start moving around in my seat, forever looking for that one perfect position where my back doesn’t hurt, my legs don’t fall asleep and my head can lie comfortable. Needless to say that I rarely find that nirvana feeling while not on my own couch.

Chair_drinks_tray_2 But, I found the solution! Yesterday I went to the Electric cinema and yes yes, it’s the perfect combination of both worlds: the large screen, the very beautiful old theatre, the big leather seats, an actual table next to you to put all your stuff, a real bar in the back that sells wine and champagne in real glasses, a little footstool to put your legs up and plenty of space (only 100 seats). In one word: heaven! Ok, the movie (The curse of the Golden Flower) was not the best I’ve ever seen, but what a great experience. I’m definitely going back there. And maybe I can then get a hold of a 2-seater sofa in the back!

On your next visit to London, screw the West End musicals, go to the Electric cinema in Notting Hill.
En zeg dat ik het gezegd heb!

This weekend in Zurich was, without a doubt, exactly what the doctor ordered. The weather was amazing, the lake (Zurichsee) wonderful and the company extremely funny. I must say, the Swiss city impressed me.
Some highlights/reminders:
– Mullets are apparently big again in Zurich (see the mother of all mullets)
– Googlers are funny, intelligent, interesting and Apple-freaks
– Fountains are more fun from a far when pedalo’ing on the lake (thanks again, Jonah, for the shower)
– Sleeping (very) late is just heaven
– Chilling in the bar across from the Splendid-bar (old town) is a nice way to end the evening
– There are not that many (nice) restaurants around the Helvetia-platz
– High heels are not made for walking around a city, looking for a restaurant
– I just love old Ferris Wheels
– At Werchter, Jonah will be eating grass
