Broer_en_zus_2Maybe I’m the shortest of the bunch, but as said before, defo the smartest… 🙂
Looking forward to hang out with you again, bro. I’ve missed you since you left London. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get to see my little sis again too. (Why did you have to move to the other side of the country? I know those West-Flemish people need your missionary work, but Dudzele is really far from Riemst…)

The Goonies

I was about 10 years old when I first saw this movie and I still love it sooo much. Can you believe that the same actor who played Mikey, was also Sam from The Lord of the Rings???

Of course, I suspected this already for years, but now independent scientists confirm it. You can read it all at the site of the quality newspaper De Morgen. But I will happily translate part of it for my English speaking friends:

Oldest sister is often the smartest
The oldest sister in a family is in general a bit smarter that her younger brothers and sisters. A group of Norwegian scientists claimed this last thursday. Their research was published in the American trade magazine Science.

I guess I don’t have to emphazise the fact anymore that I’m the oldest of 3… And although very smart, Karen and Rob will just have to live with the fact that they are no competition for me. Ha! 😉

Werken_2Since the day before yesterday, I’ve been working at a company event in a hotel on the outskirts of Brussels, in the Sonian Forest. Apparently this campus used to be IBM’s European training center. As it just opened in February as a hotel, everything is still brand new. It really is a pleasure waking up in the morning and seeing the trees. The part where the waking up has to happen before 6am is not so amusing… I’ll be here until well into the weekend, so not much time to update anything online.

Belgian elections

Some cookies, tea and coffee was what they offered at the embassy. It took me probably about 10 minutes to get in, vote for the federal elections in Belgium, have a drink and leave again.
I voted for the Belgian Liberals (comprising both market and left of center liberals, modern followers of John Locke), a party which, according to the polls, is doomed to lose these elections. I hope they don’t. And I also hope that they can form a coalition again with the Socialist party. I don’t really care who becomes our next prime minister, Guy V. from the liberals or Johan V. of the socialists. I believe both men are capable and experienced to do the job.
Tomorrow the rest of my country will vote and I will most likely be following updates, exit polls etc via the internet. I wonder if the elections will even make the BBC news…
