So I promised you some highlights from the trip to Schotland earlier and I can honestly say that I don’t even know where to begin. I had such an amazing time. If you ever don’t know where to go, trust me, spend a few days up north and you will love every second of it.

The first days we spent in Edinburgh at the festival. S. was kind enough to let us stay at her house and she really is super nice. Lots of films in those first days: Yella (really did not like this film), 8 British short films of which Rebecca was the best one, Paranoid Park (amazing) and a session with Christopher Doyle. This guy is really, really funny (and drunk most of the time). Although his own "shorts" were a bit weird and not that interesting, the work he did on Paranoid Park and his older work is pretty damn good. And the guy is just really funny…

We tried to see some comedy too and got some tickets for Rich Hall’s show. An American, who lives in Montana and apparently Moe from the Simpsons is based on him! I had a good laugh, but it’s not the best comedian I ever saw. I also thought the show was quite short.

Then we left the city for a drive to the Isle of Skye, passing through Pitlochry, Fort Williams and Mallaig. I can’t describe how beautiful the scenery was… Just have a look at the pictures. Especially the ride between Fort Williams and Mallaig was special.
In Mallaig, after some excellent fish and chips, we hopped on the ferry to Skye. Another 2 hours later, we arrived at our first bed & breakfast. After a nice meal in the local pub in Carbost, we tried to find Talisker Bay as the light of the setting sun was doing spectacular things. Unfortunately, we were way to late to catch the setting sun. Although we did manage to get this shot from the bay: (note the WE in this sentence… as if I did a lot…)

After the advice of the lady of the house, we decided to go check out the Isle of Raasay the next day. But first a stop at the Talisker Whisky distillery and the local golf course. And apparently I didn’t do so bad at golf! Ha!
Another ferry took us to Raasay and after reading about Prisoners of War that worked the Iron mines during WW I, we just had to go and find those two old mine sites. Of course, we found the least obvious one first (after a trek through the freaking Vietnam jungle)…

We also went up to Brochel Castle and Calum’s road. You can read about it here.

Back on Skye and after a lovely lobster dinner (food really is good up there), we found our second home on the island. The next day was a "let’s be absolutely lazy and do nothing that requires energy"-day. Just a small trip to coral beach and maybe Dunvegan castle was planned. We skipped the castle because of crazy entrance prices (such a shame you can’t even see it from the road) and the walk to coral beach ended up in a fight against the elements! Totally drenched, we just went to the pub and stayed there for the rest of the day. Doing nothing. Heaven.

On Saturday, we drove back to Edinburgh via the Skye bridge, Drumnadrochit (Loch Ness and Urqhart castle), Fort Williams, Ballachulish and Stirling. Back in the big city, we checked out another show. Although the tickets were quite expensive, Fuerzabruta was one of the coolest shows I’ve ever seen. Thanks again An (Bossers) for the tip! If you can’t see this show close to home, then travel! Or at least watch some youtube clips of it online.

Our last day was mostly spent in the cinema again. First we saw the  wonderful and visually stunning Tekkonkinkreet (go see this!) in a really cool cinema and the last viewing of our trip was such a highlight: Death Proof! I don’t give a damn what the reviews say, Tarrantino rulezzzz! The ultimate chick flick. Don’t miss it.

And then we went back home…

3.5 days in Edinburgh and 4 days on Skye… It was just wonderful. I’ll let you know more on how we spent the 7 days there, either tonight or tomorrow, but I thought I would already share some pics. Below you can see some that Nick took and you can find mine on Flickr here.

Girl gets killed after a party in Zichen-Zussen-Bolder (= Riemst); Maddy, the missing English girl is (supposedly) spotted in Tongeren (= next to Riemst); Teenager from Vlijtingen (=Riemst) stabs Dutch teenager… Bad news from my hometown keeps coming… When people from home ask me if it’s not dangerous to live in a big city like London, it seems like they haven’t been reading up on the local news…

Luckily also fun news… The first miss radio (Miss Wim) is apparently also from Riemst! And so is she btw… (even same street as I come from).

Today is my last day at the office. Until I come back from holidays, that is…

First some days in the New Forest in the South of England and then on to Schotland for a few days at the Edinburgh festivals (there’s multiple ones going on at the same time) and a few days somewhere around the Isle of Skye. Can’t wait to go! My first complete full week away from work!

So, next week, It will be quiet around here, although I will try to post some pictures. Maybe I’ll even get Nessie on one!!

If you don’t know this series, get it online somewhere: Entourage. Just brilliant!
