NME awards

NME, UK’s most interesting music magazine had its annual NME award show yesterday. You can find a list of all the winners here.

But more importantly, they also had a Big Gig at the O2 dome at the same time as the award show (which was held in Indigo, the club inside the O2 dome). A mate from work offered me a ticket and I don’t think I even hesitated 1/100 if a second. Line-up: The Cribs, The Klaxons, Bloc Party, The Kaiser Chiefs and the Manic Street Preachers.

So I missed the Cribs as my flight had a slight delay and I only saw two songs of the Manic Street Preachers as I had to get back home (no worries there, I heard Motorcycle emptiness…), but what a fantastic show the others put on!

I really like the Klaxons but more as a looking from the back enjoying the music kind of liking. For Bloc Party, we set in the rush to get to the front and made it to about row 3. What an energy, what a charisma and fucking good songs these guys have! Really enjoyed it (despite the beer flying everywhere and combat boots in my face from the crowd surfers).

And then… The Kaisers… Woow. I thought they were one of the best bands at Werchter last year (don’t forget to buy your ticket for that as of tomorrow!). And after seeing them again last night from the front row (ok, only for 10 seconds as the old lady with the horrrible smell had one nasty elbow to kick me back a row), my mind has been made up: Ricky, I want your baby… Sorry Gabriel Rios, you had your chance but now I’ve moved on…

Great night!

What a day yesterday… It started at 7am in Bruges with my 3-year old niece crawling in bed with me and giving me a big hug while asking if I could stay a little bit longer than the 14 hours I had planned. Unfortunately a PR agency would be waiting for me at 10 in Antwerp, so time to get up and get moving, so I could be in the office in Antwerp by 9.

A meeting until 12.30pm, a quick sandwich for lunch, some work until 4.30pm and then the driver was already there to take me to the airport. Flying out of Antwerp at 5.30pm and arriving in London at 5.30pm still feels weird to me (all those constant timezone changes are going to do me in one day). No time to think to long about it as I had to get home as soon as possible to get into my gig-outfit :-). Made it home at 6.15pm and left again at 6.30 because I had to be here at 7pm. After the most important gigs, I had to get back home around 11pm as I still needed to finish some important stuff for work. At 1.30am, I finally crashed back into my bed… Wat a day…

In case you didn’t know yet, I like football. A lot. And Standard de Liege is my team. They are without a doubt playing one of their best seasons in the last 25 years; even someone who is not a fan has to admit that. Yesterday evening, they played the second game in the quarter finals of the Cofidis Cup. They lost the first game to Cercle Bruges with a devastating score of 4-1, so chances of making it to the semi-finals were slim. But they did it anyway! 0-0 after the first half didn’t seem very promising, but they managed to score 4 times in the second half (should’ve been 6 actually…)! So me = happy! 🙂

Now just no more losing in the championship and we might maybe (hope, hope, touch wood…) pull in the double this year!

I have a funny feeling that my tickets for Standard-Anderlecht in April might be for a preview to this year’s cup final…

Yes, I’m feeling very good about starting to write again. I guess I needed a little break from the feeling of obligation and now I just want to do this for fun. So I don’t want any more shit if I don’t write a lot (tough luck, I’m sure there is other stuff out there for you to read). And yes, I’m writing in English, because I want to. And every now and then, some Riemsters dialect will be included too.

Life has been very busy these last months and included among other things:  a trip to Belgium for Christmas, a  trip to New York and Miami with my brother, a broken heart here and there, a fabulous snog with a 25 year old (!), New Year celebrations in the old mine buildings in Genk, a stay in the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever seen, 2 great life football games (Panatinaikos vs Olympiakos and Manchester United vs Arsenal (at Old trafford!)), a very cool (slightly drunken) dance night in the Rok bar in Miami Beach, a week driving a convertible, a weekend in Athens, watching alligators from an airboat, a weekend in Surrey …
As I said… busy…

So, hopefully there will be some more interesting things happening soon, so I have something to tell you all!
